Please keep in mind that a lot of information here is complete fantasy taken from various different fanfics (mainly my own, Caith’s and Son Rhandi’s). My reason for doing this is simply because we don’t know a lot about the DBZ Galaxy - how large Freeza’s ‘Empire’ was, if indeed it was an Empire, how the Ginyu Force came together, Jeice’s surname, Ginyu’s original body etc – and I’ve always attempted to make this site a that little bit different from your run-of-the-mill character shrines. Anyway, here goes:

The bulk of the Dragonball Z anime takes place in the Northern Quadrant. This section of the Universe is overseen by King Kai (Kaio-sama), one of four Gods who watch over the North, South, West and East Quadrants of the Universe from a small planetoid. King Kai's is situated at the end of Snake Way.

    Plant-sei

Over one hundred years ago Planet Plant-sei was a peaceful world inhabited by two different species, the Tuffles and the Saiyans. Technologically minded, the Tuffles cultivated what was said to be a Utopian society where the savage race of Saiyans lived off the land and lead a brutal existence. Finally, tired of their harsh lives the Saiyans came together to form a Rebellion against their neighbours. The war which resulted between the two feuding species raged on for many years and although physically the Tuffles were no match against their Saiyan adversaries, their highly advanced technology gave them the edge in battle.

Nevertheless, their luck would run out. An event, which happened only once every eight years, would suddenly occur, rendering the Tuffles technology useless. When the moon above Plant-sei became full the Saiyans transformed into the indomitable race of Oozaru. The Tuffles were wiped out and the Saiyans renamed the planet after their King, Vegeta.

'Inheriting' the Tuffles technology, the Saiyans were able to travel to different worlds. Ten years later they would come into contact with the Ice-jinn and strike up a deal which, unbeknownst to them, would start a catalytic turn of events in motion, which the entire galaxy would feel the effect of for generations to come.

    Planet Exchange

The Planet-Exchange arrangement with the Royal Ice-jinn family would come to haunt the Saiyan race forever. The Ice-jinn Prince Freeza, enamoured with his own power and desperately seeking ways to strengthen himself, began to investigate the ancient mythology of their Galaxy. His discovery of the Legend of the Super Saiyan would prove lethal for the Saiya-jinn.

As trust began to wane, the relationship between the two races deteriorated, especially as the Prince had begun recruiting stronger warriors to do his dirty work. The Planet-Exchange act quite suddenly became a 'Search and Conquer' operation with Freeza's lackeys taking or destroying what they found. When the Saiyans declared Rebellion, Freeza destroyed their planet leaving only a handful of survivors left - among them Nappa, Radditz (Raditzu), Kakkarott (Son Goku) and Vegeta, the King’s son and former heir to the Saiyan throne.

Vegeta was taken under Freeza’s arm and named a favourite amongst the Empire’s forces, making him many enemies including Guldo of the Ginyu Force who never laid much trust in the cocky, spoilt Saiyan Prince.

    The Ginyu Force

The Ginyu Force were a notorious gang of pirates working under Lord Frieza as the Ice-jinn Empire's Elite Forces. Composed of five members, each in possession of incredible talents and astonishing power levels, the Ginyu Force travelled the Galaxy carrying out jobs for the Ice-jinn tyrant; this usually entailed levelling cities, stamping out rebellion and the general spreading of destruction.

    Namek and Immortality

Freeza’s quest for ultimate power did not, however, end at the devastation of Vegeta-sei. With Captain Ginyu’s special elite squad traversing the Galaxy in search of suitable planets to conquer and the rest of the army keeping the Ice-jinn Empire under control, there was no one to challenge Freeza’s authority though many seemingly tried. Above all he wished for immortality.

This desire was nearly granted when word reached Freeza, via Son Goku’s dying brother Radditz, of the Namekian Dragonballs, which had the power to grant any person a wish. Freeza and his second in commands, Dodoria and Zarbon, took to the backwater planet Namek.

The Ginyu Force were later summoned to locate and defend the Dragonballs after both Zarbon and Dodoria were defeated by Vegeta who had rebelled against Freeza and was searching out the Dragonballs, intending to use them to his own advantage. The elite Ginyu Force were also defeated at the hands of both Son Goku and Vegeta.

The Ginyu Force, minus Captain Ginyu (who had a froggier fate; his ability to swap bodies went slightly awry when he accidentally switched with a frog), later met and challenged Tien, Chaozu and Yamcha on King Kai's home at the end of Snake Way. Once again they were (too) easily defeated and booted down to Hell (no sugar-coating it here kids).

Saku: They were kept company by Freeza and King Kold o' course but what the Hell happened to Zarbon and Dodoria? I would've at least expected to see Zarbon banged up with Freeza (lol, I didn't mean that to sound like...well, that). I know they show up on Earth alongside the Ginyu Force in DBGT but I haven't seen those eps yet...and it's very unlikely I will as GT literally bored me to tears. Anyway, just a curious rant. It's always bugged me.
