You wouldn't BELIEVE what Daddy Valdez looked like before I gave him a last minute makeover. I think cornrows suit him much more than a pompadour. His "beard" seems to be a favorite feature of readers. His right hand man, Nickles, has more of a old-timey barbershop quartet hair-- er, featherstyle going on. I wish I'd given him the tightly curled, British aristocrat style like I'd whipped up in the July '06 bonus page. It suits him.Valdez's design was mainly based on the blue-and-gold macaw. For Nickles, I was thinking somewhere between early 1900s railworker and professional boxer of the same time period, but no species of bird in particular.
